Episode Two: Facing the Giants – A Journey of Faith and Courage

Dear Beloved,

In the second episode of our series, “Facing the Giants,” we embark on a journey of overcoming adversity with unwavering faith and courage. Just as the biblical heroes of old confronted formidable giants in their lives, so too are we called to face the giants that loom before us with the same spirit of determination and trust in God’s provision. Let us draw inspiration from the timeless truths found in Scripture as we navigate the challenges of life with faith as our guide.

David and Goliath: Faith Over Fear
In the iconic tale of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17), we witness a shepherd boy who defies the odds and confronts the towering giant, Goliath, with nothing but a sling and stones. David’s faith in God’s strength surpasses his fear, enabling him to triumph over the seemingly unbeatable foe. As David declares, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty” (1 Samuel 17:45, NIV), we are reminded that with God on our side, we can face any giant with courage and confidence.

Peter Walking on Water: Stepping Out in Faith
In the gospel of Matthew (Matthew 14:22–33), we encounter Peter’s bold act of faith as he steps out of the boat to walk on water towards Jesus. Despite the storm raging around him, Peter’s initial faith enables him to defy the laws of nature and walk on the water. However, when he takes his eyes off Jesus and succumbs to doubt, he begins to sink. Yet, even in his moment of weakness, Jesus extends his hand and rescues him. This story teaches us that true faith enables us to overcome even the most daunting challenges, but it requires unwavering focus and trust in God’s power.

Nehemiah Rebuilding the Walls: Perseverance Amidst Opposition
In the book of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 4), we find the story of Nehemiah, who faces fierce opposition as he endeavors to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Despite facing ridicule, threats, and internal strife, Nehemiah remains steadfast in his determination to fulfill God’s calling. He encourages his fellow workers with the words, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives, and your homes” (Nehemiah 4:14, NIV). Nehemiah’s example reminds us that perseverance and faithfulness in the face of adversity can lead to the fulfillment of God’s purposes.

Facing giants is not about the size of the adversary, but the strength of our faith in the God who stands with us in every battle.

Finding Strength in God’s Word: A Source of Hope and Encouragement
Throughout Scripture, we find countless verses that offer hope and encouragement in times of trial. Psalm 27:1 declares, “The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (NIV). These words remind us that God is our refuge and strength, a constant presence amid life’s storms.
