A Story of Family, Belonging and Discovery
Target Age: 3–5 Years
Level One: Discovering Home
The Natigan Series
Natigan Meets the World is the gentle beginning of Natigan’s journey of growing, learning and discovering the world around him.
One bright morning in Oyarifa, Ghana, little Natigan wakes to the familiar sounds of his community—the birds outside, people beginning their day’s work, cars passing and the unforgettable call of a rooster: “Kokorokooo!” But for Natigan, an ordinary morning is filled with extraordinary discoveries.
With the loving guidance of his mother, Ohemaa, and his father, Osmosis, Natigan begins exploring some of the first big questions of childhood: Who am I? Where do I belong? Who are the people around me? What does it mean to be part of a family and a community?
His discoveries begin at home. Natigan learns that home is more than a house—it is a place where people live together, care for one another and share responsibilities. Even small hands can help, and simple actions such as putting away a cup or picking up a leaf can teach a young child that everyone has a part to play.
As Natigan steps beyond his home, his world becomes bigger.
He learns to greet the people he meets and discovers that saying “Good morning” is more than good manners—it is a simple way of showing respect and recognising others. He notices people working throughout his community: fixing cars, sewing, selling food, driving and keeping the surroundings clean. Gradually, Natigan begins to understand that different people contribute in different ways.
A visit to the busy market brings another important experience. Surrounded by colourful fruits, vegetables, fish, cloth, bowls and exciting things to see, Natigan spots something he really wants—a toy car. When his father says, “Not today,” Natigan must face his disappointment and anger. With gentle guidance, he begins learning that feelings are real and acceptable, but our feelings do not have to control our choices.
Through these simple experiences, Natigan starts to recognise the meaning of community—the people and places around him that together help make his everyday world.
Written especially for young children, Natigan Meets the World uses warm, natural storytelling and familiar Ghanaian experiences to introduce foundational ideas of identity, family, belonging, respect, responsibility, emotional awareness, work and community without turning the story into a textbook lesson.
For children beginning their own journey of discovery, Natigan becomes a familiar companion—curious, sometimes excited, sometimes disappointed, always learning.
And this is only the beginning.
As Natigan grows, his world will grow with him—from home to community, school, Ghana and eventually the wider world.
At the heart of Book One is one simple question:
“Who am I?”
And through Natigan’s first adventure, the answer begins to unfold:
I belong to a family.
I live among other people.
I have feelings.
I can learn.
I can help.
I am part of a community.
And there is a whole world waiting for me to discover.
